MCL fails to manage waste during Eid
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has failed to keep city roads clean after Eid-ul-Azha and waste associated with sacrificial animals was evident in most localities here on Wednesday.
According to a rough estimate over 150,000 cattle were sacrificed in Lahore during the first two days of the Eid-ul-Azha and most of the people threw the waste of these animals either on the road sides or on the roads.
A city resident said staff of Solid Waste Management (SWM), a wing of MCL, was assigned to remove the waste, dung and filth of the animals from roads, while a special cell was also made by the lord mayor to supervise the sanitation staff.
He alleged that the SWM completely ignored the middle and low middle class localities of the city and used all its resources to keep the posh areas of the city clean.
Another resident of Walled City said that not a single member of the MCL sanitation staff came to clean the area, while a resident of Misri Shah alleged that big heaps of animal waste were lying in the area.
An official of the MCL said that the MCL was trying hard to clean the city as the lord mayor had cancelled the holidays of sanitation staff, while extra staff was also arranged to remove the waste from the city.
