Main markets in Lahore remain closed

LAHORE: Most of the main city markets, trading centres and shopping plazas remained closed on the third day of Eid-ul-Azha festivities here on Wednesday.

Akbari Mandi, Paper Market, Urdu Bazaar, Medicine Market Lohari Gate, Shah Alam Market, Auto Market Bilal Ganjh, MecLeod Road, Nisbat Road, Hospital Road, Circular Road, Brandreth Road, Anarkali Bazaar, Mall Road, Panorama, Electronics Market Hall Road, Abid Market, Ichra Market, Jewellers Market Latif Plaza, Wahdat Road, Sanitary Market Ferozepur Road, Liberty Market, Azam Cloth Market and Fortress Stadium were among the closed markets.

On the other hand, a large number of retailers and small shopkeepers opened their shops in different localities of the city, while a rush was also observed at all hotels and restaurants of the city.

Commenting on the situation, a trader of Akbari Mandi said that the market would start operating after Sunday when most of the labourers and loaders, who went away to their homes, towns or villages to celebrate Eid with their families, would return to the provincial capital.
