LAHORE: The Goethe Institute will arrange a one-day seminar on April, 11 on Lahore which has a distinct tradition of accommodating rather than rejecting foreign influences and people. Everyone who at some point in time came to settle here, sooner or later became a, Lahori, adding his own heritage to the culture of this city.

Throughout the ages, different Muslim invaders make this city their political as well as cultural centre, bringing in the culture and traditions of their ancestral countries, be it Arabic, Persian or Iraqi. Later the British left their distinct European mark on the city for which the huge red sandstone buildings on both sides of The Mall stand witness.

In other parts of the city, various temples of the Sikhs and Hindus tell the story of their sojourn in this glorious city.

Today a colourful concoction of these so distinctly different people and races is what sets this city apart from any other in the sub-continent. Curious architectural designs a cuisine with a blend of a thousand different spices, a language which comprises many different tonnes and traditions, indigenous and foreign and people who soon forget where they actually came from, to become citizens of Lahore.

During this one-day seminar, intellectuals, writers and artists will highlight and discuss the essence of this extraordinary city.-PPI
