KARACHI: Every 12th male adult in the country is on drugs, said Dr. Saleem Azam, President of Pakistan Society while speaking at a seminar organised by the Pakistan Society held in connection with the world health day.

Referring to health care statistics, he maintained that we have one doctor, one dentist, one nurse and one hospital bed each for 1918, 50329, 1548 and 5967 persons respecively.

Dr. Saleem Azam called for an effective health policy including essential drug concept (EDC), national hospital formulary, effective drug screening procedures and preventive activities in such fields as maternal and child health care, environmental sanitation and population growth.

Dr. Mohammad Ilyas, Dr. Ahmed Ali, Prof. Kamran AliBukhari and Dr. Masroor Ali also spoke on the occasion.-APP
