Afzal Zullah
proposes moot
on SC verdict
RAWALPINDI: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice (Retd.) Muhammad Afzal Zullah has proposed a conference between the President, Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition and Chief Justice of Pakistan to discuss the judgement of the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of ad hoc judges.
Speaking at the "meet the press" programme of Rawalpindi Press Club, here on Monday, Afzal Zullah said that there should be no restriction or obstacle in convening such a conference to clear the controversy.
He said that the Constitution does not bar the government to take the opinion of the Opposition Leader and the Chief Justice of Pakistan on various issues.
Citing his own example Afzal Zullah said he himself was contacted by the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Ms Benazir Bhutto during her last tenure to give his opinion on some issues.
He was of the view that president and prime minister have to discuss some issues with Chief Justice of Supreme Court who at the same time is also Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Mr. Justice (Retd.) opined that during the conference, the discussion should be limited only to the implementation, results and ultimate consequences of the judgement of the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of ad hoc judges.-PPI
