call off strike

KARACHI: A 4-member delegation of United Workers Union, KMC, led by its President Kaniz Fatima, met the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah at the Chief Minister House and announced to call off their 5-day strike.

Talking to the delegation, the Chief Minister said that Pakistan People's Party, since the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had taken care of the interests of workers and would continue to do so in future also.

The Chief Minister assured that no law detrimental to worker's interests would ever be enacted.

The government, he said, has decided to establish a board "which will evaluate the problems and service matters of workers and employees and resolve the same." In Karachi Division the body would be called the Unified Service Board, Abdullah said.

Provincial Labour Minister Khawaja Mohammad Awan, Chief Minister's Adviser Munawar Suharwardy, former local government Minister K.S. Mujahid Khan Baluch and Fareen Awan, General Secretary Labour Union were also present at the meeting.-APP
