FPCCI team visits

Lahore Dry Port

to assess losses

LAHORE; A delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry led by its Vice President and Zonal Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik on Thursday, visited Lahore Dry Port to assess the losses caused to the business community because of the recent fire incident.

The delegation went around various sections of the shed and met different high officials to get information about the details of the losses.

After visiting the spot, the members of the delegation were of the view that because of lack of fire fighting facilities and arrangements, the fire could not be controlled which caused huge losses to the precious imported raw material and finished goods including tyres, auto parts, paper, chemicals and other items.

The members of the delegation were also informed that all documentary record and proof of the consignments lying under the affected shed had been destroyed in the fire.

The FPCCI also decided to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of Sheikh Jamil Mehboob Magoon, former Vice President FPCCI, Rehmatullah Javed, Aftab A. Sheikh, Sheikh Khalil Haider and Anwar A. Sheikh to investigate the matter and assessment of the losses occurred in the fire.

FPCCI has appealed to the government to conduct a judicial inquiry of the incident through a senior judge of the High Court for finding the real facts of the cause of fire.

A group of clearing agents also held a meeting with the members of the FPCCI delegation and apprised them about their problems.-APP
