NICE, France: Jewelry valued at 20 million francs ($4.2 million) was stolen over the weekend from a French Riviera holiday villa rented by Saudi Arabian multi-millionaire Adnan Khashoggi, police sources said on Wednesday.

The villa in the Riviera town of Villefranche-sur-Mer showed no signs of having been broken into, and none of the wealthy businessman's five employees reported hearing anything unusual at the time, the sources added.

The jewels belonged to Khashoggi's wife Shahpari.

The theft was the second for Khashoggi on the Riviera, where he holidays regularly.

Gems worth a quarter of a million francs ($52,000) were reported stolen from him in Cannes in May 1993.-Reuter
