Cotton mostly firmer

NEW YORK: New York cotton futures were mostly firmer at midday in quiet, rangebound trade, market sources said.

Traders said the session's activity was mainly limited to short covering by speculators ahead of the USDA's crop production report due Thursday.

At 1146 EDT, most-active December was up 0.31 cent a lb at 72.75 cents, with trades posted from 72.85 to 72.40. October was 0.50 higher at 74.75. The back months were 0.09 weaker to 0.35 firmer.

One trader said trade was extremely thin. "A five lot order can move the market 0.20 to 0.30 points," he said.-Reuter
