DHAKA: The Bangladesh taka closed unchanged at 40.1995/40.2000 against the dollar, dealers said.

The demand for dollars was very high on import payments. "A local bank alone bought $10 million," said one dealer with a foreign bank.

Dealers said the market has a shortage of dollars because the inward remittances had slowed and there was a lack of foreign investment in the capital maraket.

Many banks had to buy dollars from the central bank after taka-dollar rates hit the official ceiling of 40.20.-Reuter
