KARACHI: On the intervention of acting Ombudsman Sindh, Mobeen Ahmed Khan, the widow of an inspector of police department got the benevolent fund which was stopped since December 1989.

This was stated in a press release of secretariat of provincial Ombudsman Sindh on Sunday.

It said complainant Mst. Iqbal Begum stated that her husband inspector in police department expired on 29-8-1988 while in active service. On her request maintenance allowance upto month of December 1989 was sanctioned and paid to her but thereafter the same was discontinued.

She alleged that inspite of her repeated requests to the concerned authorities, the maintenance allowance was not paid to her as admissible under the rules. The complainant, therefore, requested for ombudsman's intervention.

Police department reported that the maintenance allowance for the period from 1.1.1990 to 31-12-1993 at the rate of rupees 140 per month was sanctioned in favour of the complainant and sent to her through draft dated 26-4-1994.

In order to find correct legal position and provisions of relevant rules, the matter was taken up with the IG Sindh who after examining the relevant rule No. 14 (ii) of Sindh Police Benevolent Fund Rules 1979 i.e. maintenance allowance was required to be sanctioned for 10 years, advised the SP Sanghar to sanction the maintenance allowance for 10 years immediately and balance for the period from 1-1-1994 to 31-3-1995 should be paid to the complainant forthwith and it should be followed by monthly disbursement by 10th of each month upto the period of 31-12-1999.

The SP Sanghar in compliance issued sanction order at the rate of rupees 130 per month for the period from 1-1-1994 to 31-3-1995 in favour of the complainant.

The ombudsman expressed his satisfaction over the prompt acton taken by the agency.-APP
