RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association (APPMA) has urged the government to exempt its members from compulsory sales tax registration.
The Chairman of (APPMA) and Senior Vice-President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), A.Q. Khalil talking to newsmen on Sunday, said that sales tax registration has been made compulsory for importers of raw materials or intermediate products, while government treats paper and paper board as finished product and has imposed a high rate of import duty.
He urged government to either remove the commodity from the list of finished products or exempt paper and paper board importers from compulsory sales tax registration.
He furter said that those importers who have so far registered themselves are facing problems as registration requires importers to submit their sales tax return every month.
