PM asks ministers to

supervise flood

relief in their

constituencies

WAHANDOO (Gujranwala): Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Saturday directed all the Federal and Provincial Ministers hailing from the flood hit areas to go back to their areas and supervise the relief works.

She also directed the government agencies to ensure that foodstuffs and medicines were quickly supplied to the flood-hit areas.

She expressed deep concern over the plight of people, and said that any official who showed slackness in providing timely succour to the needy would be punished.

She directed Senior Minister Makhdoom Altaf Ahmad and the PPP President, Punjab, Provincial Housing Minister Malik Mushtaq Awan to themselves distribute two trucks of bags of 'Atta' and one truck of 'Ghee' tins. The trucks were brought by the ministers for the flood affected people.

Heavy spell of rain is expected this month and the monsoon season is likely to continue in September.

This was disclosed by the Flood Relief Commissioner, Tariq Haroon Saeed while briefing Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on flood situation here on Saturday. He said that the current floods were caused by only first monsoon spell and another would occur by mid-August when these would have hardly subsided.

Prime Minister directed the Relief Commissioner and other departments to remain vigilant against any eventuality during the rainy season.-APP
