Work for construction

of fly-over begins

KARACHI: KDA has started work on the construction of overhead bridge at the University Road level crossing near Aziz Bhatti Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The Rs. 222.056 million project would be completed in 30 months under Sindh Special Development Programme as a part of Prime Minister's Karachi Package.

According to KDA the PC-1 of the project was prepared in December 1988 on the directive of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and later approved by ECNEC. Thereafter, a revised PC-1 was approved on September 18, 1994.

KDA has started work initially by removing encroachments and construction of diversion lanes along Univerity Road between NIPA round-about and Urdu Science College.

Since no alternate roads would be available to divert traffic plying on University Road during construction of overhead bridge, the KDA has undertaken construction of 3-lane diversion route on either side of the proposed overhead bridge.

These temporary roads will replace the existing service roads and reservations between University Road and the residential apartments.

KDA is removing all encroachments on the left and right of the northern side of the proposed bridge. The barrier walls constructed by the Railway will also be demolished.

Meanwhile the D. G. KDA alongwith member Special Development Project visited the site of the overhead bridge on Friday to have an appraisal about the removal of encroachments and construction of diversions.

The officials were directed to ensure the minimum possible inconvenience was caused to motorists while driving through University Road during construction of the bridge and proper guide signs were installed at both ends of the project for convenience of the motorists.

The Project XEN explained the progress of on-going work and said the contractor has already mobilized the required machinery and manpower. Besides, the diversion lanes will be ready and opened for traffic movement by September 1995.-APP
