opens Pascom

QUETTA: Corps Commander Lt Gen Ziaullah Khan inaugurated Pakistan Army Strategic Communication System (Pascom) here on Wednesday.

This communication system is a complete replacement of the existing Pakistan Telecommunication dependent system by a very advanced, efficient, reliable and direct dialing network using the state of the art technology.

Brigadier Shahid Naeem, Commander Signals, during the breifing informed the Corps Commander that under the project Pascom, a 1000 plus lines digital exchange has been installed in Quetta Cantonment along with 200 plus lines digital exchange each at Sibi, Zhob, and Khuzdar. A 120 channels microwave has also been established between Pano Aqil and Quetta which includes two terminal sites and six repeaters at intermediate locations, he added.

With the commissioning of this system, Quetta has been linked with all other locations being served by Pascom, the system of offers many facilities, including faster message clearance, enhanced capacity of communication including flexibility, security and army wide auto-dialing.

The Corps Commander lauded the role of Army Singal Corps in providing efficient and reliable communication system in a record time. He conveyed his 'Shahbash' to all ranks involved in completion of the project. He was also shown various sections of the exchange.

A large number of senior officers from General Headquarters and Quetta Garrison attended the ceremony.-PPI
