500 kv transmission

line commissioned

LAHORE: Wapda has commissioned second 500 KV transmission line between Guddu Thermal Power Station and 500 KV sub-station at Dadu on the rated capacity. Two 500 KV circuits from Tarbela Hydel Power Station upto Guddu had already been in operation.

With commissioning of the Guddu-Dadu section of the second line, Wapda now has two extra high voltage lines between Tarbela and Jamshoro. Availability of these two EHV lines from Tarbela to Jamshoro has given a boost to North-South power transfer capability on the 500 KV network. Enhancement of the transmission capacity will help transportation of Tarbela's hydel generation to the Southern parts of the country during summer months of high river flows while energy from Wapda's Thermal Power Station at Jamshoro and the upcoming thermal power plant in the private sector will be available for load centres in the North.

Commissioning of the Guddu-Dadu line will go a long way in reducing the loadshedding in the country and in improvement of voltage profile at the consumers' end. Besides, reliability of power supply to the industrial, agricultural and domestic consumers will increase as Wapda will have alternate power path available to it if one circuit of the 500 KV line trips due to any technical fault or it has to be temporarily taken out of service for the maintenance purposes.-APP
