colonies being
established
in Punjab
LAHORE: The Punjab Government is preparing about 35,000 plots measuring three marlas each. These plots would be allotted to industrial workers on easy terms which include no land cost except nominal development charges.
According to the sources, these plots were being prepared under a programme for establishing 28 labour colonies throughout the province for which capital is provided by the federal government from Workers Welfare Fund.
Meanwhile, the labour department, the sources added, had spent Rs. 2.15 crore as financial assistance for the marriage of industrial workers of the province during the fiscal 1994-95.
The Punjab government had allocated equal amount for the current fiscal year. It may be recalled here that under this head government assisted industrial workers for marriage of their daughters and Rs 15,000 have been given in each case.
The provincial government also spent huge sum on free distribution of bicycles and sewing machines for the families of labourers for their welfare.-PPI
