LAHORE: Depressing conditions persisted on Lahore paper market on resumption of business after almost five days' closure.

But traders cleared their backlog and some activity could be observed in the market.

Tradres were already unhappy over two-day strike call by the MQM and then came the strike call by their fellow traders.

They were of the view that both moves have not forced the government to give any patient hearing to the fair demands of the traders, especially about the form A of the income tax returns.

Trading was dull in the imported paper. Nevertheless, traders dealing in locally produced paper had not any difficulty to attract buyers. Rates, however, remained firm.

Local importers say the prices of imported paper may be fixed only after the import consignments are released and various charges - such as demurrages, transportation and other charges - are accounted for.
