council

for

women uplift

DHAKA: Bangladesh announced Sunday that it had set up a 42-member National Council headed by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to formulate policies on women.

Officials said the council would also coordinate government and non-governmental efforts to improve the lot Bangladeshi women, who constitute nearly half of this predominatly Muslim South Asian country's 110 million people.

Zia is to lead the Bangladesh delegation to the upcoming World Women's Conference in Beijing.-APP
