co-operation urged for
human resource uplift

LAHORE: Government and private sector should join hands to evolve a concrete programme for human resource development in Pakistan which has emerged as a prerequisite for economic development of a nation at international level. It was stated by Ashraf W. Tabani, former Governor Sindh, President (siting) Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and member Governing Body of International Labour Organization (ILO) while speaking as chief guest at the concluding session of the five-day seminar held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on human resource development.
The seminar had jointly been organized by EFP, ILO and the LCCI. Tariq Saigol, President of LCCI presided over the concluding session, whereas Ruben Dudly, Country Director ILO for Pakistan, Col. (Retd) Muhammad Salim, Manager Administration and Human Resource, Medipak, Mumtaz Ali Shah, Course Director, and Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Co-Convener, of the LCCI's Standing Committee on Labour highlighted various aspects of the human resource development.
Ashraf W. Tabani, in his address, emphasized to promote the human resource development in private as well as public enterprises on regular basis. "It provides strong base to enhance productivity and overcome the unemployment problem", he said and urged upon the institutes of technical and managerial training to have a close liaison with industrial sector to develop new human resources according to the current needs of this potential sector.
Tabani observed that present government had also recognized the significance of private sector for better economic and commercial policies. Now, a number of the representatives from private sector are being inducted in the policy-making committees of the government, he added.
Ruben Dudly, Country Director ILO for Pakistan in his address apprised the participants of the services being rendered by ILO for developing cordial relations amongst employees, employers and the government. He said that ILO had also introduced various programmes for producing the management experts with the most modern management techniques in Pakistan. He assured that his organization would continue its services with the same zeal to improve the working relations between labour and management of Pakistan.
Earlier, the LCCI President Tariq Saigol, in his address of welcome congratulated the ILO and EFP to hold such a successful seminar on the human resource development issue. He also lauded the services of Pervaiz Malik, Co-Convener of his Labour Management Committee in this respect. He said that without having a comprehensive policy for human resource development, no country can think of a prosperous future at international level. Therefore, he assured that LCCI would extend its fullest cooperation to any workshop or seminar also to be held in future for promotion of the human resource development concept.
Saigol, while appreciating the services of ILO said that it had filled in the gap created by the nationalization of 1971 between labour and management in the private sector of Pakistan.
Mian Tajjamul Hussain, President Employers Federation Lahore, Tariq Hamid, former President LCCI, Shahzada Alam Mannoo, former President LCCI, Khurshid Ahmad, Secretary General All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions and Sh. Wahiduddin, SVP of LCCI also attended the concluding session of the seminar.
