Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto asked the Pakistan Ambassador to Kazakhstan to contact the president of the university for the forming of an Urdu Chair. "Next time when I come here, I will deliver speech in Urdu and one of your students will interpret it," she maintained.
Earlier, honorary professorship of the university was conferred on the Prime Minister by the president of the university in recognition of her meritorious services for the cause of human rights and promotion of education.
The president of the university praised the Prime Minister for her sagacity and political acumen and said, "Benazir Bhutto was the first Muslim woman to become the president of the Oxford University Students Union." The Oxford University, he said was "one of the world's prestigious universities."
He also eulogised the struggle waged by the Prime Minister for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan and said, she faced tremendous hardships for the achievement of her goal. He expressed the hope that she would be able in the early transformation of Pakistani society. He added, it was because of her untiring struggle for the cause of democracy that the people of Pakistan elected her in the 1993 elections.
He also took in high esteem the academic endeavours and the foreign policy of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and said, she was rightly called the 'daughter of the east'. The President of the university expressed pleasure over the formation of Urdu Chair and said, it would further improve the existing relations between the people and government of the two countries.-APP
