cancer

LAHORE: Old and defective television sets which emit excessive X-rays are prone to cause eye disease cataract besides other health disorders like mental tension through their affect on nerves, and even cancerr.

This was stated by Doctor Tariq Pervez, Chairman Pakistan Society for Cancer Prevention, and Incharge Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here on Wednesday while talking to APP.

Discussing the hazards of over-exposure to televisions and computers screens, Dr Tariq said colour TV sets which were manufactured before 1980 emit excessive X-rays mainly because technology was not so health conscious back then. Moreover, by now the picture tubes of such sets have gone considerably weak.

Dr Tariq Pervez has emphasised upon proper maintenance of televisions sets and has asked people to keep considerable distance while watching the electronic screens.

While discussing the negative affects of X-rays, Dr Tariq said people should go for X-ray imaging only on sound medical advice. Moreover, expectant ladies must not be unduly exposed to these rays as it increases the chances of cancer in the baby through gene mutation.-APP
