LAHORE: Asian Development Bank has approved the tenders for 1450 megawatt Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Project and approval of the World Bank was awaited.

This was disclosed by Wapda Chairman Shamsul-Mulk in a chat during a seminar of Pakistan Engineering Council in Lahore on Wednesday afternoon.

He said that the construction of the barrage was expected to start in November this year and added that financing for the project had been arranged in a satisfactory manner.

He said that Japan will finance the power complex for which tenders were yet to be floated. He said there was no objection from any side and rather everyone had appreciated its concept, objectives and other aspects.

Tanders for the barrage and power channel were opened in April this year and participated by six joint ventures of international and Pakistani firms.
