LAHORE: Lahore Bypass is likely to be completed by the National Highway Authoritty by December 1996.

Well-informed sources told Business Recorder in Lahore on Tuesday that the balance of the construction work that remains will be compleeted under the private sector.

The 18 kilometers long first phase of Lahore Bypass dual carriageway (three lanes each side) with six bridges from Multan Road to Jaranwala Road is estimated to cost Rs 3,000 million with no foreign aid and is included in the non-core prrojects of the NHA for current financial year.

An estimated expenditure of Rs 1526 million had been incurred on thee project till June this year and an allocation of Rs 100 million has been provided in the NHA development programme for financial year 1995-96 for its continued implementation.

The sources maintained that the construction of Lahore Bypass will help in easing traffic congestion in the city with the traffic, including heavy vehicles from Karachi and Multan sides, on way to Rawalpindi and Peshawar turning to this Bypass.
