SCCI chief to

nominate presidential

candidate

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday authorized its chief to nominate candidates for the election of president and vice-president of FPCCI, following the expiry of term of the present cabinet.

The FPCCI's elections process will start in the month of October this year on completion of the tenure of FPCCI President S M Muneer and his cabinet.

Muhammad Akbar Zia, President of SCCI while talking to newsmen here, rebuffed the news reports, appearing in a section of the press (not Business Recorder) that certain candidates in the NWFP were trying hard to emerge for FPCCI's top slot, as baseless and unfounded and said that no decision had yet been taken in this direction. Decision to this effect would be taken after the announcement of election schedule. He said, the managing committee of the FPCCI was expected to meet in early September this year to finanlise the election schedule.

To a question, he said, he had been unanimously empowered by the Executive Committee to nominate candidates for the post of president and vice-president for the coming elections of FPCCI because this time it was NWFP's turn to rule FPCCI. He recalled that after a lapse of 16 years, president and vice-president of FPCCI were expected to be elected from NWFP.

In reply to another question, he said, certain vested elements were trying to sow the seed of hatred among the members of SCCI for the achievement of their ulterior motives. However, he made it clear that there was complete understanding and unity in the rank and file of industrialists of the province.

Senator Ilyas Bilour attended the meeting as an observer. The Executive Committee meeting was attended among others by Senior Vice-President of SCCI Khalid Sultan Khwaja, Faiz Rasul, Haji Fazal Elahi, Sufi Bashir Ahmed, Haji Abdul Ali, Nooruddin F Daud, Haji Noor Muhammad, Engr. Maqsood Anwar and Haji Muhammad Hussain Shah.-APP
