prices steady

BOMBAY: Sugar prices were steady in tight-range trade with consumer demand at a low ebb, dealers said.

"Everybody in the market is awaiting the announcement of the free sale quota for September by the government," a dealer said. Traders are expecting a quota of about 690,000-700,000 tonnes for September against this month's 670,000 tonnes.

Ready sugar S-30 was quoted at 1,220/1,255 rupees per quintal and M-30 at 1,237/1,327 rupees per quintal. Sugar mill delivery was available at 1,170/1,175 rupees per quintal.-Reuter
