KARACHI: Exporters have complained about the non-cooperative attitude of the new commercial counsellor appointed by the Ministry of Commerce in Bonn.

The Chairman of Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association, Shabbir Ahmed said in a statement that he had contacted the new counsellor in Bonn to get an appointment for him at the Ministry of Finance there but the official refused.

He said that Germany is a very important country for export of textiles from Pakistan and any commercial counsellor appointed there should cooperate in boosting exports. He said that some of the commercial counsellors selected by the Ministry were formerly deputy commissioners who know nothing about exports.

Most of the newly-selected commercial counsellors did not even bother to meet traders at the Karachi Chamber and FPCCI to know about their problems before their departure.

Shabbir urged Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to recall the Bonn counsellor and appoint an experienced and knowledgeable successor in an important country like Germany. He praised the services rendered to exporters by the predecessors of Sikandar Arbab including Younus Khan, Shakil Hyder and Yousuf Memon.
