KARACHI: A high level meeting presided over by Commissioner Karachi has decided that sugar will be sold at Rs 13.50 per kg in entire Karachi Division, it is officially stated here on Saturday.

The Commissioner Ziaul Islam said that there was no shortage of sugar in the city and government has already supplied sugar to all Utility Stores in sufficient quantity in the entire division.

He directed all the deputy commissioners to depute SDMs for conducting inspection and surprise raids in the city to check that sugar was sold at the controlled prices and take strict action against the profiteers.

Islam also directed DC's to personally contact with people to help them and keep eyes on the profiteers and hoarders of sugar to ensure these elements should not sell sugar at higher prices in the market.

It was also decided that from August 20, all Utility Stores, weekly bazaars, including Friday, Saturday and Tuesday bazaars will sell sugar at Rs 13.50 per kg.

The Commissioner said it was the moral duty of the district administration that items of daily use should be available to the citizens at reasonable prices and build their confidence in the Government.

Director General Bureau of Supply and Prices, Director Bureau of Supply, Controller General of Prices, deputy directors of FIA, all deputy commissioners, sugar mills owners, wholesalers and retailers attended the meeting and gave assurance for cooperation in this regard.-APP
