CHICAGO: Scattered and small-lot speculative buying boosted CBOT rice futures to a higher close, traders said.

"There was a little spec buying but it was quiet and the September keeps hanging around $8.00," a trader said.

Rice futures continued their choppy trading pattern and were seeking direction, traders said.

CBOT rice futures closed three to five cents per cwt higher, with September up three at $8.00 per cwt. -Reuter
