Khajji Ground

development

KARACHI: Work is being undertaken on the development of infamous Khajji Ground and its adjoining areas on the directive of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

During a surprise visit to Khajji Ground recently, the prime minister had granted Rs. 35 million for the development of the ground and its surroundings.

Sindh Governor Kamaluddin Azfar told APP that to implement the prime minister's programme for development of areas affected by terrorism in Karachi, the Commissioner Karachi has been appointed as Project Director.

In pursuation of the prime minister's directive, the Project Director has invited applications from reputed firms and contractors for pre-qualification for the works which include improvement and upgradation of sewerage system in Gulbahar area, improvement and repair of footpaths, streets, internal roads and S. W. drains in Gulbahar area, development of parts and playgrounds at Khajji Ground, Gulbahar and development of existing street lights and their improvement.

According to official sources these development works are to be completed in the shortest possible time and within specified period as per agreement.

The firms and contractors who have experience in such works have been asked to provide details about their registration with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), list of technical staff, details of asphalt plant, equipments, machine and transport permanently owned by them; details of works of similar nature have been carried out by them and the works in hand etc.

The pre-qualified firms will have to get enlisted with KWSB and KMC as approved contractors and tenders will be issued only to those firms, contractors who would qualify for the same.

According to a communique of the Project Director, the applications will have to reach the Commissioner Karachi and Project Director by August 24.-APP
