Japan to provide
Rs 17m for
flood victims
ISLAMABAD: Japan has decided to extend emergency assistance for flood relief to Pakistan, amounting to US$523,000 (about Rs 17 million).
This is stated in a letter written by Japanese Ambassador in Pakistan, Takao Kawakami, addressed to V.A.Jafarey, advisor to the Prime Minister for Finance.
This relief package the letter said, will consist of US$300,000 (Rs 9.7 million) in cash and provision of 100 tents, 2000 blankets and medicines and medical materials worth approximately $223,000 (about Rs 7.2 million).
"This decision has been made from the humanitarian point of view and in consideration of the friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan," Kawakami said, adding that he sincerely hoped that this would contribute to the efforts of the Government of Pakistan to provide relief to the flood affected people.-APP
