implementation of
Karachi package
KARACHI: The implementation of Rs. 121 billion Prime Minister's Economic Package for Karachi was reviewed in detail at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Kamaluddin Azfar at the Governor House here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Secretary, Syed Sayeed Siddiqui, Additional Chief Secretary Development, Secretary Planning and Development, managing directors of KESC and KWSB, Director General KDA, Administrator KMC, Chairman KPT and other senior officials of various departments.
The heads of various departments presented reports about the pace of progress in respect of schemes which have either been implemented or were under implementation and the schemes which are being taken up immediately.
The package mainly focuses on critical areas of transportation problems, water supply, environmental issues, ESP Sewerage and power supply.
As regards power supply, the Managing Director KESC, Syed Tanzim Hussain Naqvi, informed the meeting that under Rs. 532 million rehabilitation programme KESC has completed 66 Feeders, 42 High Tension Links, 58 Pole Mounted Transformers and 77 LT cables besides laying of cable in Lyari area.
He informed about Rs. 88 billion plan for KESC's generating capacity from 1700 to 4000 MW in the private sector.
He also briefed the meeting about the progress made in respect of Lyari Grid Station costing Rs. 166 million Long, Term Plan for expansion and rehabilitation of system facilities under Rs. 11 billion 5th Power System Loan granted by Asian Development Bank.
Briefing the meeting about present position of KDA works included in Prime Minister's Socio-Economic Package for Karachi, the Director General KDA Ahmed Hussain Siddiqui informed the meeting about progress made regarding construction of Kalapul (duplicate) Chand Bibi Bridge Rs. 58.788 million, construction of Rashid Minhas Road Flyover Rs. 334 million and Shah Faisal Colony Rs. 254.513 million.
He informed that work has been completed in respect of furbishing of KDA schools at a cost of Rs. 8.87 million, inter-connection of water supply system in sector 33-D Korangi Rs. 0.77 million, improvement of drainage system in sector 12-C, North Karachi Rs. 4.20 million, construction of second track of 100 feet wide road in sector 7-C North Karachi Rs. 8.67 million construction of left over roads in sector 6-B North Karachi Rs. 10.34 million, renovation of sewerage system in sector 7-D North Karachi Rs. 4.88 million, repair of roads patch work in different blocks of Scheme-5, Clifton Rs. 10.14 million.
He informed that action was in advance stage regarding inter-connection of water supply system in sector 41-B Korangi Rs. 0.42 million, renovation of sewerage system in sector 8-D Bilal Colony Korangi Rs. 11.69 million and construction of pump house for sector 7-C, 7-D/1, 7-D/2 and 7-D/4 North Karachi Rs. 17.74 million.
The Managing Director KWSB, Brig. Mansoor Ahmed briefed the meeting about procurement of sewer cleaning machines, desilting/cleaning sewers etc.
Administrator KMC informed about procurement of solid waste management machinery, cleaning/desilting of nullahs, drains, development of land-fill sites, removal of encroachments, tree plantation etc., garbage train, Katchi Abadis etc.
The Chairman, KPT briefed the meeting about the progress mad ein respect of Jinnah Bridge Rs. 1050 million, Mauripur Road Rs. 210 million and dualization of Maulvi Tamizuddin Road.
Meeting was also briefed about progress made in respect of Hub River Road improvement Rs. 75 million, Lilly bridge Rs. 160 million, Old Kalapul Rs. 16 million, Clifton Flyover Rs. 303 million, Liaquatabad Flyover Rs. 314 million, Lasbella Bridge widening Rs. 52 million, Tin Hatti-Shaheed-e-Millat Link Rs. 27 million and Lyari Expressway Rs. 27 million.
Briefing was also given about Rs. 1500 million Katchi Mass Transit Plan and Northern Bypass which will be executed on Built-Operate and Transfer basis.-APP
