LAHORE: The Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has stated that the government is seriously endeavouring to start the operations of Punjab Bait-ul-Mall in order to utilise its funds for the financial assistance and rehabilitation of the deserving and needy persons with missionary zeal in the province.

He was presiding over a meeting of the provincial Bait-ul-Mall Council to review progress on the working of the Punjab Bait-ul-Maal here on Wednesday. Ameen Punjab Bait-ul-Maal Maj. Gen. (Retd) Mohammad Akram, Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, Lt. Col. (Retd) Mohammad Yameen Khan, S.M. Bashir, Mian Khadim Hussain Wattoo, Mian Yousuf Salahud Din, provincial secretaries of Social Welfare and Fianance, Director General Social Welfare, Punjab, Syed Mohammad Haamid Shah and Minister for Social Welfare Badarud Din Chaudhary were also present.

The Chief Minister said paucity of funds would not be allowed to come in the way of this noble and welfare oriented mission. He said adequate resources would be placed at the disposal of Punjab Bait-ul-Maal for helping out the destitutes and deprived sections of the population at all costs.

The meeting was informed that the Punjab Bait-ul-Maal Council was speedily finalising the formation of District Bait-ul-Maal Committees comprising social workers enjoying good reputation and spotless character. The work was likely to be completed within a fortnight.

Detailed discussions were also held on starting the welfare activities of the Punjab Welfare Fund for minorities instituted with an amount of Rs 10 million by the Chief Minister recently. It was emphasised that the disburesement of monetary assistance to the members of the minorities should be taken in hand at the earliest. In addition, the existing amount of this fund should be enhanced adequately to effectively cater for the immediate and urgent requirements of the minority community.
