KCCI

flayed for rules

violation

KARACHI: A member of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) had made strong objection over the violation of rules in the working of the chamber and sent its copy to the Director Trade Organization (DTO), Ministry of Commerce.

According to details a member of KCCI KS International has raised strong objection over the co-option of two members into the managing committee on June 21, 1995. Two members, Haji Shafiqur Rehman and Sheikh Ilyas were co-opted in the managing committee in its meeting held on June 21, 1995.

Earlier, two members of the managing committee, Munir Mashooqulah and Sultan Kushtiwal resigned as members of managing committee creating vacancy for Haji Shafiquar Rehman and Sheikh Ilyas from Trade Group and two associations respectively.

KS International in its objection letter addressed to the Secretary of the KCCI, Nazir Ali has accused him of violation of rules of Article of Association of the KCCI.

Quoting the Clause 38-E the KS International said that under the said clause any casual vacancy of member shall be filled by co-option by the managing committee from amongst the class of members to which the outgoing member belongs.

The said clause further said that of the president, the senior vice president and the vice president shall be filled by the committee by election from amongst its existing members and the resultant vacancy of the members shall be filled by co-option provided that no such vacancy shall be filled under this clause during the first 90 days as well as 270 days after the holding of annual election.

KS International said in their objection that the last election was held on September 21, 1994 and the cooption of Haji Shafiqur Rehman and Sheikh Ilyas was made on June 21, 1995.

The company said that on June 21, 1995 the number of days have become 272, i.e. two days more than the required number of days under clause 38-E so cooption is null and void, they added.

KS International accused the secretary that it was his job to advise the member, managing committee to work under the rules and regulations of Articles of Association of the KCCI but he had not properly guided the managing committee before and he had not done the same this time as well. kS International has also sent his objection to the Director Trade Organisations (DTO) Ministry of Commerce.

This objection has created an embrassing situation for co-opted members because they are reportedly are strong candidates for presidentship of the KCCI.

However, a group who is dominating the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) which called strike on March 25 last against the present government and its association with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is strongly against the candidature of Haji Shafiqur Rehman for KCCI presidentship.

A member of the KCCI managing committee said that this time politics is being openly involved in the election of KCCI managing committee and forthcoming elections of office-bearers and a candidate belonging to Peoples Party is being supported by the FPCCI dominating group which was involved in calling two strikes against the present government.
