Day celebrated

ISLAMABAD: The 48th anniversary of the independence of Pakistan was celebrated with a renewed pledged by the people and the government to make Pakistan strong and true to the legacy of the Father of the Nation.

Large processions were taken out from different parts of cities with motor-vehicles bedecked with national flags to mark the most auspicious event of national life. Great enthusiasm was seen among the people who attended rallies, processions and participated in the meetings to celebrate the occasion which included flag hoisting by Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in front of Parliament House in which she pledged to make Pakistan economically strong, end curse of load-shedding and continue to give moral and political support to Mujahideen fighting against Indian rule in held Kashmir.

She also condemned ghastly murder of Norwegian hostage by unknown kidnappers in the Indian held Kashmir and called for freeing other captives without any conditions. About Kashmir, she said no one can stop the struggle of the Kashmiri people and their courageous efforts will be crowned with success.
