ISLAMABAD: Pakistani exports to Hong Kong increased by 59.31 percent during 1994 compared with the previous year, said by Consul General of Pakistan, Tariq I. Puri.
He was addressing a large gathering on the occasion of the 49th Independence Day at the Pakistan Club House, Hong Kong, said a message received here on Monday from Hong Kong.
He said that total trade during 1994 amounted to dollar 569.162 million and pointed out that mostly traditional items of exports raw cotton, cotton yarn and textiles topped the list.
However, exports of other non-traditional goods including fruits, vegetables, fish and fish preparations, leather goods, garments also jumped substantially. These results had been achieved due to dynamic export policies of the present government, he said.
He also said that the government has taken up, the long outstanding demand of Pakistani residents in Hong Kong for establishing of direct aviation link between the two destinations, with the government of Hong Kong and hopefully the matter will be soon resolved and PIA will be able to start its flight operations.

Earlier, the Consul General hoisted Pakistani flag at the Pakistan Club House. The function was attended by a large Pakistani community, representatives of the diplomatic corps and senior officers.
