KPT urged to

stop imposition

of demurrage

MULTAN: President Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khawaja Mohammad Abdullah has appealed to the KPT chairman to stop imposition of demurrage, and to refund the demurrage already levied.

In a press statement, the chamber chief said that clearance of imported goods almost delayed due to non-availability of concerned officers, staff. Owing to law and order situation in Karachi but KPT imposes demurrage on the importers in spite of this fact that they are not at fault, on their part.

He further said that everyone knew it that personnels of Custom, shipping companies and KPT are not available on their seats due to continued terrorist activities, unrest and strikes in Karachi resulting which necessary papers cannot be prepared in time, thus it is not justified to impose demurrage on the importers for the delay in clearance which resulted due to the absence of various officials in their respective offices.
