PML(N) to
boycott
Sanghar
bye-election
KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League (PML Nawaz) on Saturday announced it would boycott the bye-election to Sindh Assembly seat PS-66 Sanghar in view of what it alleged "government's excesses and arrest of its workers and supporters in the constituency".
Addressing a press conference at his residence here this evening Sindh PML chief Syed Ghous Ali Shah said the decision to boycott the bye-election was taken by the party chief Nawaz Sharif.
"I contacted Nawaz Sharif and explained him the whole situation in Sanghar particularly the excesses of the government and the arrests of our workers and supporters. On the advise of the PML chief we decide to boycott the bye-election scheduled to be held on August 17, 1995", he added.
Jam Madad Ali, the PML(N) MPA was unseated by the Sindh Provincial Assembly a few weeks back on the ground that he failed to attend the assembly session for forty consecutive days. This decision of the provincial assembly was challenged in the Sindh High Court which upheld the verdict of the House.
In the bye-elections to PS-66 constituency, the PML(N) had nominated Shafi Bukhari as its candidate.-PPI
