retiring on

KARACHI: Shah Jalil Alam, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Hinopak Motors Ltd will be retiring on August, 31.
Shah Jalil Alam, who has been associated with the automotive industry in Pakistan for the last 35 years joined Hinopak Motors Limited in February 1986 as Director Marketing and later in December 1989 was appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the company. Under his stewardship, Hinopak Motors LImited made tremendous progress. Apart from enjoying the position of market leader in commercial vehicles in Pakistan, the company has made substantial headway in exporting buses to UAE, Somalia and Mauritania.
Engine and axle assembly plants, a well equipped vendor development cell and a modern design office were some of the facilities added to Hinopak during his tenure to bring technological competitiveness of the company in line with Hino counterparts in Asia and the Far East. In addition, a full fledged quality assurance department was created.
The company also won the Management Excellence Award for the last two consecutive years, while it was recently awarded the first Pakistan Science Foundation Award on quality control by the Government of Pakistan. The company is in the process of applying for ISO-9000 certification by the end of the year.
After his retirement Shah Jalil Alam will continue to represent Al-Futtaim on the company's Board of Directors as a member of the board.
Shah Jalil Alam will be succeeded by Hasan Irshad, currently the Deputy Managing Director, Irshad will assume the office of the Managing Director of the company from September 1.
