threaten strike

against levies

FAISALABAD: The Federation of Punjab Contractors (FPC) has threatened to stop the construction of all development projects from September 1, 1995 if withholding tax on contractors income and sales tax on construction material were not withdrawn. This was announced by the Chairman FPC Mohammad Ishaq while addressing a protest meeting held at PWD offices here on Saturday.

He said that the government by leving withholding tax and sales tax on construction material has put the construction sector on the brink of destruction. Presently development projects worth Rs 1.5 billion are in various phases of construction in Faisalabad only, he added.

Earlier a large number of contractors took out a protest procession against the government policy and shouted slogans in favour of their demands.
