KARACHI: The Chairman of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Khawaja Muhammad Abdullah has urged the government to issue a notification regarding exemption from sales tax on import of Basic Chromium Sulphate in the 1995-96 Trade Policy.

In a press statement on Saturday, he said that due to the lack of the SRO, huge consignments of the chemical imported by local tanners for processing of exportable finished leather were lying at the port for clearance.

He said that the non-availability of the SRO was resulting in heavy demurrage charges due to delay in clearance, and at the same time hampering production schedules of tanners to meet their export commitments.
