CBR calls Feb ST audit report

ISLAMABAD: The Central Board of Revenue has asked all its Collectorates of Sales Tax and Central Excise to provide comprehensive data on sales tax audit performance for the month of February, it was learnt on Wednesday.
The Board has also directed the Collectors to prepare a consolidated report on the sales tax arrears as on February 29, 2000.
The CBR has clarified that both these reports should be made available on top priority basis and the information must be returned immediately by fax.
In this regard, the ST department has designed new formats of sales tax audit performance and ST arrears reports.
The CBR has explained that sales tax audit performance report for February 2000 should include; the number of senior auditors and auditors, number of audit conducted and completed, amount detected, number of cases pending under adjudication and assessment as on January 31, 2000, amount involved, number of cases where SCN has been issued, number of cases where 'O in O' has been passed, number of cases where assessment orders has been passed, amount adjusted (including additional tax and penalty, amount recovered, number of cases pending under adjudication as well as assessment at the end of month and amount involved.
The Board has also demanded sales tax arrears report comprising cases in appeals Tribunals, cases in appeals before Collectors, court cases and other arrears. This also includes outstanding at start of the month; number of cases and amount involved; added during the month; number of cases and amount involved; total number of cases and amount involved; number of cases settled, amount recovered, written off and waived; number of cases pending at the end of the month and amount involved in pending cases.
The Sales Tax Wing of the CBR has set sales tax target (gross and domestic) at Rs 7,925 million for March 2000.
Collectorate wise target of sales tax were fixed as: Hyderabad Rs 800 million, Rawalpindi Rs 750 million, Faisalabad Rs 570 million, Gujranwala Rs 180 million, Lahore Rs 1,325 million, Multan Rs 1,500 million, Peshawar Rs 450 million, Quetta Rs 150, Karachi (East) Rs 1,500 million and Karachi (West) Rs 700 million.
