BD becomes
first Asian state
to ratify CTBT
DHAKA: Bangladesh became the first South Asian country to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), it was announced here on Tuesday.
The treaty was ratified through an "executive order" and would be deposited with the United Nations, Foreign Secretary Shafi Sami was quoted by the official BSS news agency as saying.
"Taking the landmark decision of ratifying the treaty, Bangladesh became the 28th state of the 44 states whose ratification is necessary for the CTBT to enter into force," he said.ÑAFP
