LHC summons DCs, AIG, others on Tahir's petition
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has directed Deputy Commissioners of Lahore and Sheikhupura to appear before it in a petition field by M D Tahir, advocate, praying to declare the police officials responsible for the serial killings incident.
The court also directed Secretary, Social Welfare Department, to submit the report about the NGOs working in Punjab.
The court also directed Additional Inspector General of Police, Punjab, to appear before the court and inform it about the necessary steps so far taken to curb the evil of abduction of children.
EDHI INSTITUTION
Earlir, Abdul Sattar Edhi, who also appeared before the court along with his wife, informed the court that he had established an institution for the missing children in Karachi, which can help police to find out a missing child in Karachi within two hours.
He said that he wanted to work in Punjab also, but so far he had not been able to get a place for construction of a similar institution. He said the rate of land in Punjab was very high; hence, he was unable to launch this programme in the province.
The court then observed that he would be provided not only cheap but also free of cost land to establish such an institution for the welfare of children.
The court, therefore, directed Director, Equity Trust Department, to appear before the court on the next date of hearing and inform the court whether any palce could be provided to Edhi Trust for establishing an institution for the welfare of the children.
