Jeddah meeting

on Afghanistan:

FO hopeful of result

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office spokesman on Monday hope that positive results would come out of the meeting between the representatives of the Taliban government and the opposition to be held in Jeddah.

The meeting is being held under the auspices of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan.

He appealed to the Afghan parties to "exercise restraint and to disengage from the fighting" for the promotion of peace and reconciliation. The fighting is reported to have broken out in northern Afghanistan, said a statement by him.

An OIC statement in Jeddah said: "The aim of these meetings is to determine the possibilities of bringing all the Afghan parties together to draw up a workshop plan acceptable to all in order to restore peace to Afghanistan."

This meeting is being held after OIC took a fresh initiative on Afghanistan recently to restore peace in the country.

Pakistan is to be represented at the meeting by a senior official of the Foreign Office.ÐAPP
