700 Wapda workers denied selection grade

MULTAN: Wapda officials have denied selection grade to more than 700 workers of thermal power station Muzaffargarh which is over due since 1994.

The affectees told local newsmen on Monday that Member, Power, of Wapda, had issued orders (through a notification dated May 23, 1992) that administrative control of three thermal power stations i.e. natural gas thermal power station, Piran-Ghaib, TPS Multan Cantonment, and TPS, Muzaffargarh, is placed under Chief Engineer TPS project, Muzaffargarh. However, seniorty of staff of these power station employees would remain separate.

NGPS employees challenged this notification in High Court on 1994. The Wapda withheld the cases of selection grade of three stations till the judgement of the court. The LHC, Multan, disposed of this writ petition, in August 1999, with the observation that it is a policy matter of the Authority and Wapda should take appropriate action and intimate to the court.

Upon this, Wapda upheld its May 23, 1992 orders and issued a fresh notification on September 20, 1999 in this regard. In the light of these unambiguous orders by the Authority, they appealed to the chairman of Wapda to redress the grievances of the workers serving at TPS Muzaffargarh.
