Need stressed for textile institutes

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Industries Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui on Saturday praised the performance and standard of the Institute of Textile Technology and Management (ITTM) and was of the view that there was a need to set up more such institutions in the country to help produce trained manpower for enhancing the country's exports.

He was addressing a ceremony to distribute achievement certificates among the students of ITTM here, where he was chief guest.

Farooqui said that land should be allotted to ITTM for its expansion.

He said the government desires that all those in the weaving sector should be included in the GST scheme so that revenue could be increased.

The minister promised that he would refer the suggestions on this matter to the finance minister that there should be a uniform treatment to the powerlooms and shuttleless looms.

He said the government desires that more value-added machinery be imported so that efforts could be made towards the enhancement of foreign exchange for the country. APP
