Campaign to attract tourists

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Evacuee Trust Board (ETB) would launch a joint campaign to attract tourists and pilgrims from abroad. The decision was taken during a meeting on Saturday between the Chairman, Evacuee Trust Board (ETB), Gen Javed Nasir (Retd) and the Managing Director, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Abdul Ghaffar Mohammad.ÑAPP

Conference on CTBT

RAWALPINDI: The issue of CTBT will be discussed, with its pros and cons, at a conference, being held here on Tuesday, March 7. Military and civil experts will participate in the conference, being arranged by Tanzeem-e-Islami. The speakers include Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohi (Retd), Lt Gen Hameed Gul (Retd), Nuclear Scientist Eng. Bashiruddin Sultan, Maulana Jaleel Ahmed, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Rawalpindi and Dr Israr Ahmed, besides editors of local dailies. The conference will be held at Hamdard Hall, Murree Raod, at 6.45 pm after Maghrib prayers.ÑAPP

'Women on the web'

KARACHI: The British Council, Karachi, plans to organise a panel discussion, 'Women on the Web', at its premises here on eve of the International Women's Day on March 8. A British Council announcement said on Saturday that the speakers will focus on how the global knowledge revolution will allow leap-frogging to take place and how the internet can be used to empower women. Jehan Ara, Anila Weldon and Rabia Garib will be the speaks on the occasion.ÑAPP

UGC workshop

LAHORE: A two-day workshop on identification of ways for strengthening effective University-Industry interaction under the aegis of University Grant Commission (UGC) will be held here at UGC regional centre on March 7 and 8. The UNESCO General Conference in its 29th session resolved to hold regional workshop on science, technology and industry needs in Pakistan. LCCI office-bearers and members, and senior professors of the universities of Pakistan will participate in the workshop. Mohammad Akram Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Engineering & Technology will be chief guest at the final session on March 8.ÑAPP

Three traders booked

MULTAN: Three persons were booked under loudspeaker/amplifier violation act, police told newsmen here on Saturday. According to details, on the complaint of the people of the area, Old Kotwali Police raided three tea shops situated at Old Khanewal Bus Stand and arrested there owners including Mohammad Sadiq, Kashif and Mohammad Azhar.ÑAPP

PBC to air Deen-e-Fitrat

ISLAMABAD: Radio Pakistan has launched a new religious series under the title 'Deen-e-Fitrat' which will be broadcast every Sunday at 4.08 pm on its national network. The first programme will be aired on March 5 entitled 'Islam Kiya Hai'. Renowned scholar Dr Ghulam Murtaza Malik will deliver a brief lecture on the topic followed by a question-answer session by the participants. The other topics of the series will include 'Islam aur Jaheliyat', 'Huzoor-e-Akram ka Farze Mansabi', 'Islam aur Amn-e-Alam' and 'Dehshatgardi ka Khatima'.ÑAPP

The author Dy Editor Nawa-i-Waqt and an intellectual, was in the entourage that visited China for its Golden Jubilee celebrations. Stole vehicles recovered

RAWALPINDI: The city police in a drive recovered three stolen vehicles here on Saturday from different areas of the city. According to details the staff of special cell of the police recovered a Pajero bearing number Pesh-6699 from Tahir Mahmood, a resident of Abbotabad. The police squad also impounded a Suzuki Khyber, MNO-6790 from westrige area. The westrige police also recovered Honda Civic No AAZ-684, stolen from Lahore on Feb 21 last.ÑAPP
