ISLAMABAD
The rupee maintained its firm position against the dollar in the kerb markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The markets of twin cities resumed trading with stagnant dollar at Rs 54.20 as compared to same last rate. The dollar was sold at Rs 54.25 as compared to the same overnight value.
Markets opened on a firm note due to the active participation of buyers and sellers in the first session. The market remained in positive zone throughout the day and finally closed on a stable note.
The pound sterling shed 10 paisa as it opened at Rs 86 as compared Friday's rate of Rs 86.10. It moved between Rs 86 and Rs 86.10 and was sold at Rs 86.50.
The UAE dirham was bought and sold at Rs 14.80 and Rs 14.82 respectively. Both British and Saudi currencies remained in plus territory throughout the day with expansion in volume.
The Japanese yen remained lower as it started the day at Re 0.52 (buying) and was sold at Re 0.53.
The German mark maintained its overnight value at Rs 26.80 (buying) and was sold at Rs 271.
