The rupee remained stagnant against the dollar on the currency exchange establishments of twin cities on Tuesday.

The market started the day with a firm greenback at Rs 54.30 as compared with Monday's the same rate. The dollar was sold at the overnight rate of Rs 54.35.

Money changers were of the view that markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi opened on a comparatively better note owing to the participation of genuine buyers and sellers in the first session. The sentiment of the market remained positive throughout the day and market finally closed on a healthy note.

They said that buying and selling rates of the greenback remained the same in both sessions as balanced demand and supply factor did not affect the rupee in the kerb.

Pound sterling was bought and sold at Rs 87 and Rs 87.25 respectively.

Japanese currency opened at Re 0.493 (buying) and was sold at Re 0.496 in the kerb.

UAE dirham opened at Rs 14.82 and was sold at Rs 14.85, Saudi currency opened at Rs 14.49 and was finally sold at Rs 14.52.

German mark remained higher in the kerb as it was bought and sold at Rs 27 and Rs 27.20 respectively throughout the day.
